Road Trip '20: Vancouver, WA → Caldwell, ID
Like the rest of the world, Marsh and I have been hanging out in only our house for far too long. We also weren’t able to go to Nashville with friends and postponed our October 2020 wedding party until the foreseeable future. I thought a trip away would be good for us both, and I knew that our friends would be driving from St. Louis, Missouri to Seattle, Washington toward the end of June. Earlier this year (right before lockdown was enforced), Marshal was bummed that he couldn’t fly to Missouri to then drive back to Washington with Palfy, and a joke that he missed out on the “trip of a lifetime” (and I was to blame) quickly formed within our friend group. Because of all this, plus my thinking that a road trip would be relatively safe in regards to social distancing, I started planning this road trip as a surprise to Marshal.
He obviously caught on that we were going somewhere, and he finally told me he suspected we were flying to Arizona to visit the Gaithers. Unfortunately for him, he wasn’t going to be drinking by a pool and golfing in 90+ degree weather. Nope, instead, he’d be crammed in my little Kia Rio with me and the dog as we drove through Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming for our own “trip of a lifetime”. When he arrived home from work on my birthday, I gave him the card below explaining the “surprise” trip. 😁
Our entire road trip, including Michael and Anne’s trip from St. Louis, below.
We left for Caldwell, Idaho around 2:15 pm and arrived there, where my great uncle Jon and aunt Linda live, around 10:00 pm.
This is Jon and Linda’s house, where we stayed the first night.
Jon took Marsh and me to his son Mike’s farm, though I didn’t take any iPhone photos when on the farm. Jon also gave us a tour of local wineries and told u about the land along the way. Before we left for Salt Lake City, Linda made us a delicious spaghetti meal, and we were able to wear out Boo before our 5+ hour drive.
I filmed our adventure (MIke’s farm included), and I plan to post our road trip video later!
