Road Trip '20: Salt Lake City, UT → Mesa, CO
On the afternoon of June 17th, Marsh and I left our Salt Lake City Airbnb to first eat lunch at the Great Salt Lake. I used the top of our trusty car to make sandwiches while Marshal threw the ball for Boo in the lake. I initially planned to join them down at the lake, but Marshal came back with a report that the water was pretty gross (salty and full of bugs) and Boo barfed. So, naturally, I pulled an Elyse and enjoyed the view from the dry, clean parking lot.
Then, we drove about 5 hours to reach our final destination of that day, the tiny town of Mesa, CO. This drive was really beautiful, as it was on a hot, sunny day, and much of the mileage was on I-70, which leads through a colorful canyon.
It wouldn’t be a road trip, though, if we didn’t get pulled over for speeding, right? This ^ was right after a Utah cop took a nerve-wracking amount of time to run Marshal’s license and my tags only to come back with a stern warning to not bring weed back in to Utah (okay, we weren’t planning on it) and suggestions as to where we should visit, then LET US GO. We are still wondering why he didn’t give us a ticket, and yes, we drove away acknowledging our fortune.
Arriving to our Airbnb in Mesa, I finally thought this was what I’d envisioned for our road trip. We’d been driving for a while at this point, yet that’s all it really felt we were doing. We arrived with time to explore the land and even relax a bit. The location was in the middle of nowhere, and the cabin itself was rustic yet clean and cute.
Here’s the cabin we stayed in, “Wolf” ^
After I explored for a while, Marsh asked the Airbnb host if there was water nearby so we could throw the ball for Boo. Though there wasn’t an accessible river close to our Airbnb, she suggested that we follow her back to her private property so Boo could swim in a reservoir there. The reservoir was far away from her actual property, so Marsh, Boo, and I were able to enjoy the sunset and soak in the scenery by ourselves.
